Special Event: June 6th: Cedar Beach Parkway
In the midst of continued controversy, and what is slowly becoming a very active summer season of volunteer stewardship, I imagine it is incredibly easy to forget that our parks are places of refuge, relaxation, community, connection and true spirit.
After yesterday’s storm of comments and seeming concern, I am looking forward to large turnouts at :
Save The Parks: Litter Pick Up at Bucky Boyle
Save The Parks: Old Fairgrounds Clean Up and Restoration
It is with this in mind that I am incredibly excited to announce that Remember will be joining forces with Save The Kales to present an afternoon of food, fun, sunlight (fingers crossed) and connection.
Save The Kales is a blog written by a foodie, citizen-advocate, and all around awesome lady by the name of Jaime K. Jaime also writes a blog focusing on the strength of community in Bethlehem, called HEART OF STEELcity.
I have rented Pavilion number three and I ask that you please RSVP so Jaime and I know how much food to prepare.
Bring a Frisbee.
Bring a lawn chair.
Most importantly, bring yourself, eat great food, sit back and Remember:
”Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.” Muir
I will be sharing many particular details in the coming weeks, but also consider this a great day to kick back after what I am hoping are two great clean ups and restorations.
There will be a lot fun that afternoon. Get excited, spread the word and also, Save The Kales.
More details to come…. MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW!

excuse this commercial from my point of view, but i urge your readers to visit the pavilion NOW, and see for themselves, the paths, new and old, dug up, widened, overlapping; no beauty there
...so, is that a 'no' from molovinsky? either way, i'm going to be there.
Widened or overlapping, it's going to be a gorgeous day with new friends, positive spirits and full bellies. Sounds awfully beautiful to me! Can't wait.
Alas Jamie, Cedar Creek is not beautiful now. Do go check it out everyone. Still, what you are doing is wonderful. Good job. SAVE THE PARKS !
I was in Cedar Creek Parkway today and thought it looked great! I can't wait for construction to be complete. Different strokes for different folks.
Yesterday post was very interesting. Andrew said the Parks Director had heard for the first time about the road building that will kill trees in Lehigh Parkway. If this is true it can only mean several things: 1.) That the Parks Director doesn't bother to read this excellent blog largely devoted to the park he runs. 2.) Major city departments don't communicate with one another. 3.) The Parks Director doesn't know whats going on in a central location in his own parks. 4.) The Parks Directors staff does not inform him of projects carried out by other city departments in the center of Lehigh Parkway. 5.) The Parks Director was not fully candid with Andrew. None of these possibilities are encouraging.
I agree with Anon.3:04 PM. I love that earth ripped up, silt runoff into the stream, blacked topped, stamp out the wildlife habitat look. Please give us more asphalt in the parks. Hey,different strokes for different folks. Nuke the whales!
I think #s 1-4 are definitely correct and #5 is a likely possibility, anyway.
ANON 3:04 is Greg W's mom.
I don't like what the city fathers and mothers did to the Rose Garden at all (aesthetic disfigurement); but I intend to go there enough times this Spring to (hopefully) slowly acclimate to his "improved" Rose Garden.
I don't want to be sitting there throughout the Spring with only my righteous anger and regret (strong and familiar as they are) and not let some Park Green and Tree Height and Nascent Budding loosen up this specific human consciousness.
Too too bad about the dis-figurement, but maybe it'll be less shocking with the Spring growth abounding (I hope). My encounter with the the newly re-designed Rose Garden during the visual starkness of Winter was abhorrent. It was ugleeee...maybe it'll be slightly redeemed by lushness and flower-scent. I hope.

No doubt the glory of Spring will still arrive at Cedar Park. And people, as we know, for better or worse, can adjust to anything. Still, what a shame that what could have been so positive ..............
