Remember: Litter Pick Up at Bucky Boyle Park

Litter Pick Up at Bucky Boyle Park

I am excited and pleased to announce that on Saturday September 19th at 2:00, I will be organizing a litter pick up in Bucky Boyle Park.

We have had two walks and a picnic in our parks and it is time that we began to give back to the parks that have allowed our wonderful experiences.

I will be looking to get some latex gloves and trash bags donated and I am going to be creating a Facebook event page for this as well as attempting to get our local media outlets to give the event some coverage.

It is my belief that the time has come for Allentonians to step it up and really start becoming more actively involved in volunteer stewardship.
I will keep up to date with information regarding this event on here.

Get ready to get some gloves on and help clean up some litter readers. It is time we started making a difference.

Any questions? Ask Away

Much more to come…

Absolutely, totally, 100% wish I could be there. Post pictures! Before and after! And bring snacks and water, it's still summer out even though everyone's thermometer has been saying otherwise.

interesting andrew, today i spoke with greg weitzel, and he mentioned asking a particular group to volunteer in some aspect, quite a coincidence, with your recent interview and all. i do agree that our parks need much more basic maintenance, if the public should be counted on for that role is questionable. weitzel contended previously that improvements would result in more pride and less liter, considering bucky boyle was just redone, so much for that theory. i didn't make any mess there, don't believe the park dept. should be remodeling when they can't even handle the current load, and will not be helping you.

Micheal,

My plans for this event have been in the works since July. Weitzel did not ask me to do this. I am doing it on my own. There will be further events like these in our parks as there have been walks, and a picnic organized by me with no help.

There will always be litter. That will not go away and volunteer stewardship helps no matter the municipality.

I hope to see you out for this event. It is amazing to me that for as many people that showed up at city council chambers to protest Cedar Beach, I can't get twenty to show up to discuss or enjoy the parks. I am hoping they will want to help by becoming active stewards rather than mere rabble rousers.

andrew, weitzel was referring to asking the Rose Garden Neighborhood Association to help at the rose gardens, sorry i wasn't clearer about that.

it's admirable for you to organize a clean up, and most people would agree with that. i have my own peculiar attitude about that, but realize i'm in the small minority.

andrew, as one who did attend the council meeting, i didn't see any "rabble rousers" there among the opponents. i did feel the mayor summoning local congregations to come and demonstrate against the "racist park plan opposers" as divisive and reprehensible.

My son Andrew can think for himself. Time to put action behind all the words. Stop flapping your gums and help turn all our parks around.

mr. kleiner, i can only think your comment is directed at me. i admire andrew's work, like wise, let me set you straight. so far this year, my efforts may have saved bicentennial park(it's supposedly off the "for sale" list) and put the fountain park wpa steps on the "to do" list. administration designs to activity encourage weddings at the rose garden have also succumbed to public input, via my efforts. while i'm at it, i was told recently that you wrote something, somewhere, critical of me. if you would be so kind as to steer me to it, perhaps we can also address that.

Almost all the "great" park systems in this country heavily involve volunteers. City workers have every right to be protective of their jobs, but I say, there's plenty of work to go around, and this is a great effort on your part, Andrew!
