To the city of Allentown: Save Our Parks

Please leave a comment with your name below, I will consider it a signature and present this to city council on Wednesday Evening.

To Allentown City Council, Mayor Ed Pawlowski and Greg Weitzel:

Unaddressed environmental issues continue to persist and worsen inside the parks of Allentown. Firmly established guidelines have been dictated as suggested practice by Pennsylvania's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The specific problems faced in each park need real solutions, and they need them now. I implore you, as leaders of the city of Allentown to begin the process of change that will result in seeing these issues addressed.

No Mow Zones and proper riparian buffer systems need to be expanded and properly maintained starting this summer in all parks in Allentown. Volunteer groups should be established to maintain these areas.

Further construction in the parks of Allentown that does not address the environmental negligence need to be halted until such a time when these issues are corrected permanently.

I request that formal consideration be given to a new park planning process that would see these issues addressed in the immediate future and that the process is conducted entirely with public input and participation.

I hope that all of you care deeply for the park system here in Allentown; the legacy of which you now all control. For years, Allentown has been known as Pennsylvania's Park Place, and in their current state, our parks are not to be proud of.

The far reaching goals of the Trail Network Study, while necessary, can only be implemented when the environmental issues in the parks are corrected. I and other concerned and informed citizens can only support the implementation of that plan after the needed work is completed.

You all have the chance to make a real and lasting difference here in the city of Allentown. You can set the environmental example that should be followed by municipalities across the country.

Seek consultation from scientists and professors at local colleges for ideas and plans. It is my belief that such consultation will come at no cost to the city.

Our parks are at a crossroads, and it is up to you to make sure they end up on the right path.

Save Our Parks.

Where have you been (save silent)?

A true champion of the Parks would be pumping out articles left and right ahead of Wednesday night's critical City Council vote.

You should have had article after article trying to draw attention to the Park you claim to love so much.

Good thing the Park has a true DEFENDER prepared to do what is necessary to keep this issue in the public consciousness.

A champion to tell the good citizenry of Allentown about things such as LifeTrail Wellness stations designed by Playground Systems.

His name is Molovinsky.

Respectfully but Seriously,

ROLF OELER

Remember --- He/She who opposes the Multi-Generational Destination Playground is a racist.

Did you get the Mayor's Wife's email about children and their effectiveness with signs?

I always loved to drive through Parkway Blvd and view our beautiful parks in the everchanging seasons. I now am sickened to see what has been allowed and can only wonder what will continue. I felt like our parks have been ruined and it makes me want to cry. I was actually startled when I drove through the other week. This should never have been allowed. Our mayor, our council, have no appreciation for what made us great. Thank you for the video but it only reaffirmed what I already knew...our parks are being abused and for what benefit.

Andrew,
I wish you luck in convincing council to save the parks of Allentown. You have an uphill battle ahead of you. Your best bet, in my opinion, would be to focus on the economics of the matter.

Clearly, Allentown does NOT have the finances to maintain ANYTHING new in our parks, as we obviously do not have the finances to maintain what we already have. Weitzel may be bound and determined to get a nice bullet point on his resume regarding our parks, but somebody must tell this man the well is dry and his pet project is too expensive for these dismal economic times.

Your video is very nice, very disturbing and beautiful all at once. Kinda like Allentown! But your affection for the parks shines thru in your pictures and your writing, and I hope your delivery tonight conveys your passion.

Good luck, and I apologize for the anonymous comment. Just wanted to wish you well and I can't wait to read the synopsis of tonight's city council meeting. (I will be at a science fair, so attending council's meeting tonight is out of the question.) Thanks for your dedication to this topic and keep on keepin' on.
