Remember: The Warpath

The Warpath

Now that the mulch has settled, and the Eagle Scout and the SEIU (the union for city employees) have made public amends, I figured it would be worthwhile to talk a walk down the path that briefly made national news.

At the far end of the parking lot at Kimmet's Lock, without a sign or mention is the beginning of the trail. The trail travels a short distance while providing excellent views of the mostly empty Lehigh Canal that runs along its entire length.

The trail is a wonderful addition to the park and once it connects with the D+L trail that ends just past Hanover Township's Canal Park a few feet away, it will really be an amazing and long lasting addition to our park system.

I want to thank the Scout for his hard work and I really hope that what has happened with this situation can lead to a new understanding between the SEIU and the city of Allentown and more of these projects can happen throughout our city.

This is a great job by the Boy Scouts. If this is the kind of trails we are talking about, sign me up. If trails means the paved crap in the Rose Garden, I say no way. Ths trails survey doesn't really give space for meaningful public comment on any details. If it did, I doubt those Rose Garden trails/roads?, would ever have been built.

Ronni,

The paved paths around the reflecting ponds and whatever other path creation takes place at Cedar Beach is completely unrelated to the Trail initiative. The Trail survey at this moment is still a survey. There was a public meeting about it at the library this past summer where the developers of the plan took pages of public input, did a q+a and talked individually with every person present about what they would like to see done with a comprehensive trail network.

The next public meeting will be sometime in the near future and I will be posting about it on here. I suggest you, and everyone else who has worries or questions or whatever to come out and voice your opinion.

Again, what is being done in Cedar Beach is part of the Cedar Beach renovation.

Mr. Kliener, that "Trails Survey" is not a survey. Ask your professors. It is a limited questionaire designed to establish a preordained outcome. That "survey" is a political tool to justify a plan that is largely in place. Those public meetings like the one at the library are mostly for show. Regardless of how one feels about the "trails study", and I am supportive with some reservations, Those "public meetings" and esp. thAT "SURVEY" ARE SOMETHING OF AN UNFORTUNATE PHONEY PROCESS.
